Do what I do. Once I place a full area of grass, then I place a full area of dirt on top of it, and apply a fractal transparency, allowing the grass to show through (though do so showing more grass than dirt) - it looks very natural doing it that way. Illustrator does add pixel effects in some cases. And you can place pixel images as well. Are all your textures vector based? How much of the work you make in Xara is vecor based and how much in pixel based? You seem to work on quite big sized maps but my guess is that many things are pixel based anyway?
