    Default Hello

    Hi,

A little about myself. I am a 47 year old living in Washington state. I started in 8th grade playing ADnD. Over the years I have tried many different games. Rpg, board, comp. and PBeM.

I have always dreamed of making my "Dream Campaign"/world and decided I better do it before I die. The first use for it will be a PBeM with my friends. Then maybe add a version online using the Tabletop Simulator. The end goal would be to write a fiction book around it. (That truly is dreaming.) I would like to make maps for it, thus I found this site. Any help on what computer program to use for world, city, village and dungeon maps would be greatly appreciated. Also, weird question, do you need to know geography and weather to make the maps or just wing it? I don't want a dessert where plains should be on a continent, but not sure if that really matters.

    Thanks,
    Drew

Hello Drew! Welcome to the Guild!

There is a great tutorial in the sticky section of Tutorials, called Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Mapping: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=4276 that contains a lot of info about software.

From there, go to Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=10655

Once you have completed those two tutorials, you'll be well on your way!!

When it comes to the geography/geology questions, try this thread: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=30156
