    @snodsy: I don't use Illustrator. I've considered getting it many times, but haven't so far.
    @TK.: I think I'm good where I'm at on label placement. I agonized many long hours to find a combination of balance and legibility, plus I still need to add railroads and that will fill some of that empty space.

    Certainly it is! I just tend to get a lil obsessive with symmetry sometimes...

    This looks stunning Diamond. Impressive how you handle all those labels without any fuzz. You don't happen to have some progress pictures for the actual map? Would love to see it

    Cheers,

    I don't. By the time I felt confident enough to post the first image, I realized I hadn't thought to post any of the early stuff. Ah well, it was boring anyway. Here's some preliminary color work. I'm not super happy with it, but I haven't had a lot of time to sit down and experiment the last couple of weeks.

    This is coming along beautifully, but somehow I think I'd like a more original name

    Oh, I dunno. Cornelia is a pretty original name, I think.

    Ba-dum-tish!

    Nah, Caesar's wife already used it. but Ba-dum-tish, now there's an original name! See how that one looks on your map

    Diamond;
    I think you've handled the text on the map, the rhumb lines, borders, mountains and all beautifully. I'm not in favor of the Optima-like font. Love the Garamond serif font, its beautifully incorporated into the seas and bay. But the other font doesn't seem to compliment it all that well. Totally personal taste I know - Have you tried a Gill Sans or other san serif with a little character to it. Love your map! Beautiful job
