    Question New here too

I'll join the other newbies here today. I'm glad this group exists. I would not have found it if I had not been looking for a solution to a problem.

Can I put that problem here?

I want some sort of bounding box or frame to use to make a map of the central California coast. I want the rest of California to disappear or to stay faded black & white.
I made a polygon but one has to use a raster to use Extract by Mask and I don't have a raster that covers both the land and the ocean.

Is there another tool to use?

    Thank you!

    Julie

Hard edge. That would be awesome! How did you do that?

I did it in Photoshop, but I'm sure you can do the same in GIMP or most other such programs.

    1. I duplicated the color layer, put it below the first one and then desaturated it to greyscale.
    2. I made the shape of the polygon, selected the outside, then deleted the colored layer outside the polygon.
