Thread: November/December 2015 Challenge: Larb's commission - Umi No Toride

I was looking through images of coastal rocks and outcrops as well as lichen. I'll give it a try.
Not sure how I'll render it so it looks like lichen and not just color on rocks.

I still haven't decided. Originally it was going to have a border of some sort but I sort of like the clean look...
and it's getting a bit crowded already. But it's all still in transition so it may get one in the end.

Update - I tried taking the advice of Tainotim and Diamond with the lichen.
I went with a more yellow lichen. Might add a bit of orange. It seems to work better than green.
Added some pavers, more dirt, some text - so far all in kanji. That took a while to find translations and kanji.
This may end up being an all kanji entry if I can manage it. I would also make a translated version of sorts.
    Feels like I'm getting close.

Oh, very nice. I love the staining on the walls near the waterline.

I really don't know what to say about this as it is just so so far beyond all expectations. So err... yes. Just amazing!
My new Deviant-thing. I finally caved.

Thanks Diamond. I'm glad you suggested yellow/gold for the lichen. That added a nice layer to this.

I am glad that this is working for you Larb. As my client, your satisfaction is ultimately what I'm after.

If I can, I'm going to try to finish labeling this weekend and try out some borders if I can come up with any that are complimentary and not just busy.
I appreciate all the comments and advice. Had i more time I would probably try to throw in some boats and little figures, maybe more little stuff.

Are you able to do everything with an excellent result ?? May I suggest a few goldfish and a shark then? Nah, just kidding . Very impressive, a jewel, no doubt.

Well, this is amazing.. apart of the awesome detail level (the roofs, the waves, the rocks), the most cool thing I notice is the disposition of the work: the transition from top-view to front is perfectly blended, as the idea of the map in the upper corner and the floor maps. Pretty original and wonderful executed job! Bravo!
