Thread: Olde Qaliste

    Map Olde Qaliste

As I progressed I decided to make an antiqued version of Qaliste.
I might also try a a B&W/greyscale version if I have time. There's a post-wip thread for this stuff too.

I like how this turned out.

I like how the map pokes outside the borders. I know the un-antiqued version does, too, but somehow it's more apparent here. It gives a three-dimensional punch to the piece even though the colors have all become muted.

I ... may just like this better than the original. Although I can't quite decide, as I keep going back and forth between the two versions. I can see the influence of your LotR pics in this one, and I loved the colour palette in those.

Yeah, there are a number of things that are more clear in this version.
I think the terrain shows better in this aged, less colorful version.
It was a problem I was facing while doing the color version. I kept feeling like I was losing definition in the mountains.
But that is a problem that comes up often with color versus monochrome.
Monochrome just shows details better than color.

I totally understand that ChickPea. A number of people have said the same thing.
If not for the time involved, it would be tempting to try to do this in that ME color palette.
I was quite fond of it too.
I think less color allows the details to show better, as I was saying to jshoer.
Strong color makes it even worse, though it can look cool too.

    Thanks again Max.
I am trying to decide if i think it is too dark and muted....
I feel like it might need a bit more lightness or contrast.

It doesn't bother me that much but you're right about this. I'm pretty sure you would see the lack of contrast by turning this one in a greyscale version.

That's a good point. And true I think. I'll have to play around with it a bit more.

Nice! As I also love your LoTRseries, I think I prefer the "modern" version for this one. It lacks a little bit of contrast by comparison... But it's still awesome anyway .

Great work J.Edward. I prefer the colored version, but both are really good.

    Cheers,
