Wip Mar / Apr 2016 Lite Challenge: Treasure Compass

I love drawing the compass on my maps. I have a sketch of what I want to do. It's going to be a metallic compass fitted with some kind of gem. Not sure if it is going to be on a slab or maybe a pile of coins. Depends on how much time I permit myself to make it. My current sketch is just an outline. The circles were going to be studs maybe with gems or pearls in them. I might get another one up later tonight since I will have some time to work on it. Well anyway, just wanted to jump in on this challenge so here you go.

I love it. I might 3d model it after the challenge. If you're ok with that of course.

Nice start! This sounds like it'd be perfect for a map to a dragon's hoard or a pirate's treasure or something

Yes that is perfectly fine! I finished the outline and already started adding gems and color but I will put the outline here in case you wanted it.

Also thanks for the encouragement everyone! I just kinda posted and ran yesterday, hehe. I will have color and stuff in my next update.

Ok, so here is the basic color scheme I am going for. I was thinking of maybe making each of the gems a different color to give it variety. I was going for a bronzish gold color for the main part. I am still not happy with the circle. But let me know what you think!

Really nice start, especially for a new member. Imo it is better to leave the gems in one color, too many different ones would make it bling to much, if i would change i would add just one extra color for half of them. I agree about the circle, it is a bit to wide to be plain so you could add some sketcing or text inside it or divide it into two thinner ones that are connected on a few spots etc. Anyway great start

Yeah, that is really nice. I like the heavy "tarnishing" or shadowing of the circle, it gives it character. But I agree with Barek about either making it thinner, dividing it into 2 circles, or some scrollwork to dress it up a little.
