Default Apr / May 2016 Lite Challenge: Roman Cohort Military Encampment

Okay, so I had a little bit of time free to make a start on this map. Going digital this time, but keeping it relatively simple, and with a very much hand-drawn inked style.

I've started adding some of the camps around the temporary settlement and thrown in some text for a bit of flair. I think the overall style (at the moment) I'm going for is like a factsheet/sign you might see at a English Heritage site or the like, so it's going to be a mix of Roman authentic style, on the right, and information and illustrations (if I'm feeling up to it), on the left.

Like I say, it may be subject to change slightly, but it definitely will be of a Roman Military base camp.

*EDIT* - before anyone says, I will definitely be moving the scroll and map apart more.

now that's a unique approach. I don't think I would have thought of that. I'm very curious to see this one develop. It has a good start from what I can see
Like a thief in the night
    she comes with no form
    yet tranquility proceeds
    the accursed storm...

And that is another great thing about the challenges, seeing how many different creative ways people come up with to meet the Challenge.

Thanks guys, I'll try to get another update maybe tonight, or in the next couple of days!

My illustrations actually seem to be going well!

Okay, I haven't done too much more to the maps and mainly have been working on the illustrations, though surprisingly they didn't actually take too long. I've definitely improved so much in my drawing since starting mapping!

Anywho, composition is subject to change, along with some of the colours, but here is where it stands at the moment!

I love this idea! Your artwork is fantastic on this piece! I can't wait to see it finished! But I had thought about doing a military encampment too so you may have some competition from me if I can actually get started

Really cool artwork you've made. A single thing stood out a little, hyphens weren't used at that time, or actually it was used to connect to separate words as one meaning but on the same line, so I'd drop the hyphens in the text .... and never hyphen with just two letters if you can in any way avoid it as a general rule pet peeve
