Welcome aboard Confutus!

Hello, everyone
I started lurking here a few years when decided to take more interest in various software mapping programs, and somehow found references to this site.
I've long been interested in geography, but find maps highly informative, I decided to experiment with making my own. I have some interest in real-world geography, some in science fiction, and some in fantasy; but I don't have strong artistic skills.
I've invested in a few tools to make things easier, CC+ and Fractal Terrains from ProFantasy; AstroSynthesis and Fractal mapper from NBOS, but I'm not entirely sure how to use these tools to confer vague ideas into a good-looking map. I suppose that will come with practice.
Anyway, I have decided to quit lurking and join the crowd.
