    Wip World Map, Testing the waters. C&C welcome

    Okay, so I'm new here. *waves* But since everyone asks in the introduction forum to see your map. *takes deep breath* Here's my current WIP. Pretty basic, but I do like simple black and white maps. I'm not sure if this is how things will stand, but here's what I'm working on. And no, the world doesn't have a name yet, but I'm working on a fantasy in this place. We'll see what happens.

    Comment and Critique always welcome.

    Nice start! It has a good fantasy feeling, and it seems like something that would be in a book.

    It is indeed an interesting style, and a interesting coastline. At first I was like "Poseidon's Way... and... Poseidon's Way.. Two of them? What?!" Then I remembered it was a world map.

    The thing that stands out to me right away is the forests, they seem to much in a pattern, a grid almost, it's mesmerizing, but not natural to my vision. Perhaps making them sparser would help? I think that mountains are usually what you notice first on a map, rising above the plains and the trees, while in this the bold forests kind of drown out the mountains in some places. Also some of the text (especially on the forests) is a bit hard to read.

    Keep it up, I'm glad you posted.

    Thanks, and you're very right about the forests. I've learned a lot more since browsing the tutorials. I'm going to try some different mountains and get a feel for drawing mountains a bit better. My stand in little trees are cute but yeah, they do need some work too. Thanks for the feedback. Always appreciated!

    interesting look post modernist with a look of a wood stamp

    one thing with a "world" map

    most people ignore the poles because they think they are hard to work with
    -- not really so

    i am assuming your map is in Mercator projection 76 north to 76 south

    a geo referenced remap to polar stereo graphic and Mercator
    90 north to 60 north polar
    60 north to 60 south Mercator
    60 south to 90 south polar

    the map is 8 pixels per degree

    and the poles can be worked on
    --- 90 seconds to Midnight ---
