I'm very happy to have my very first silver compass from jointly winning the Sept/Oct Lite Challenge: map a legendary location!

Thinking of legendary places I immediately thought of Lyonesse. It's Britain's Atlantis, a land lying "west of Cornwall" that features in the tales of King Arthur, a rich land ruled by Arthur's enemy Mordred. I've reimagined Lyonesse as being a real place rediscovered by archeology, with Arthur as a real historic king. The Cornish flag is real, created in the 6th century, but the Lyonesse standard is a sea dragon based on a Celtic knot which I thought appropriate.

I really enjoyed working on this, it was a fun challenge and stretched my skills. I based the map outline on real features of the sea floor around Cornwall plus a lot of extra drawing, then ran the outline through Wilbur erosion to get the rugged Cornish coastline. The rest is done in Photoshop, I warped the final map into the book-page shape.
