Default November 2016 Challenge: Shrine of the Tangaros

Well, I've not really tried my hand at doing any proper battlemaps really (I've dabbled at pseudo ones before), so I thought it best to come up with something for this challenge to get me in some practice.

I've struggled for time in the last couple of challenges I've done for various reasons, but this time I have a plan. Essentially, if I seriously am short on time, I'll crack out something simple and black and white, or block colour. If I have a bit more, then the details can start to get more complex both in terms of walls and the furnishing throughout. Then, if I have even more time, I'll get super detailed on the colouring and shading side of things. There are other bits and piece I may experiment with along the way too.

Well...that's the plan anyway, not that I ever seem to stick to them...

I thought about doing a sci-fi space ship (think Nostromo-esque) and also thought about a giant tree, but thought I'd save that for a future map. In the end, I thought rather than overcomplicating things as I usually do, I'd keep it straightforward with a classic dungeon, the Shrine of the Tangaros.

My rolls were as follows: 5, 4, 4, 1, 5, 1, which equals 16 rooms minimum and one with a (distracting illusions) trap. Again, I may add a couple more rooms, but it's all time dependent.

Here's a rough outline of the basic rooms, just to give some idea. Some of these are on varying vertical levels, so I'll play about with how best to display that.

Good idea GLS, plan to keep it simple, then let it get complicated if it goes that way.

Well, my plan disintegrated almost immediately and I got distracted playing with lots of colours and textures and what not. As a result, I haven't added too much in the way of furnishing so far and what's there hasn't got proper lighting (the torches lightings will definitely change).

    Anyway, here's the WIP:

    Any comments or crits welcome.

Also, I just realised, this version doesn't have any steps, which fill a couple of gaps.

Oh but GLS! It looks beautiful

Texture and colour is more than half the map, IMHO, and you have done a very excellent job of it.

Very nice work on this GLS! The paving is excellent. I like the torches, but I think they might look better if the rest of the rooms looked a tad darker.
