First off, Happy New year! I hope you all had a great night.

I am mucking about with a map, trying to get the hang of using the tablet I gave myself for christmas (love it enormously so far!), and I've run into a problem. I've drawn a line of mountains which splits off into two directions. At the end of the line that goes horizontal, the ridge line tapers into foothills pretty seemlessly, but if I try to draw the foothills the same way at the end of the vertical line of mountains it just looks a little cartoonish. I've attached an image of both views to illustrate.

Does anyone have a suggestion to how I can draw the foothills in the vertical line so they look more natural next to the mountains? Click image for larger version.
