Wip Restarting My Campaign Map: Terran

This is drawn using GIMP 2.8.2. I am going for a top down view more than isometric. I am looking for more of a photo realistic map as well, like a Google Map.

Your style is reminding me of ascanius unfinished world (check the last pages of the thread, mainly) and,in part, Viking's celebrated style.

Those could be two sources of inspiration for you, have a look!

So I find myself in a dilema. I'm making all the mistakes I can learning this art of cartography. I never saved the palette of colors I used in the first sections I painted. So of the three sections I have done so far... which looks the best?

More practise is needed. I don't have enough time in one sitting to make the parts look the same but I am getting better at blending I think.

So I got fed up and trashed another file. I threw out that map and started over again. This time working on the map as a whole instead of sections so there was less blending. I also had the time today and did it all in one go... so if you what an atlas shot of your world, and can't afford the big money programs, download GIMP 2.8.

Wow, the vegetation detail looks really good. I need to add that to my maps... did you clone a pattern? How did you do it?

Random textures and bump maps. I used a render clouds then colorised it and slected by colour to get the random selections to bump map.
    Trial and error... and luck.
