Wip First Gimp map, feedback needed!

    Hey all,
this is my first map i made on my laptop using my bamboo tablet.
i followed a tutorial on Youtube and got this okay result, but i am not happy with the way the mountains and coastline feel.
to me they look unnatural and cartoony, any tips or feedbaack is welcome!
i couldnt figure out a way to get the picture in my post so i included a Imgur link.

I really like the mountains, actually. The trees and swamp look good, too. For the coast lines, I would add another layer to your dark border layer and hit it with a gaussian blur. That will smooth it out so that it doesn't look pixelated when you zoom in. I'd probably add the border to the rivers, too.

There is a problem with some of your rivers. Unless it's a delta, they should not split, they are supposed to converge.

Also, you have mountains and forests stacked one over the other.

I'm not exactly experienced either (second post!) but you could try adding a layer to the water to darken the deep areas. Right now the consistent shade of blue and green make it look very flat, which might be contributing to the cartoon look.

Some of the coastline seems a bit jaggy but overall good start.
