Isla San Pedro - Antique Marine Chart (WIP)

Just a quick post about something that I am working on.



The plan with this is to produce an antique marine chart of an imaginary island group somewhere in the carribean (or thereabouts) - Spanish influenced names. I don't speak Spanish, so this may be a good part of the challenge, so as it develops, if there are any native Spanish speakers lurking out there, any criticisms will be welcome.

So far we have a coast outline, background texture (not settled on this, so it may change), and a basic border.

So, maybe I shouldn't have put "Antique" in the title, as I have decided to ditch the texture and go with a plain white background. I will be trying to fairly closely mimic NOAA charts, as this is mainly an exercise in trying to improve my mapmaking skills and use of GIMP.

Thanks Ilanthar. I've been doing a lot of work on scales, border, grids, navigation devices etc. Will try to get an update posted in the next couple of days.

Latest WIP, added blue area to denote shallow water, started putting in soundings, land contours, and some work on the grid and coordinates.
I am trying to do a compass rose similar to what one would get on NOAA charts, but having a bit of a mission with it. Will get it eventually...
