Map Map of Southern Granadure by Blando/TheRedEpic

    Heya,

Here is a B/W commission i just finished up for Frank Morin's "The Petralist" book series.

I tried a much cleaner and more ink heavy style for this one. Since i have been working to improve my inkwork, I have been incorporating it more heavily into all of my professional work. My wife remarked that it reminded her of a Tolkien map, which of course is probably the highest praise I could receive

This looks fantastic! I love how you managed to keep it clean and readable, but still make it look very detailed (if that makes sense). I think quite often black and white maps tend to be very "crowded", with lots of details to make up for the lack of color and texture, to the point where it's quite hard to understand what's going on. You did a great job on this one, congrats!

As Nopkin said, the fact that it isn't crowded yet still gets the differences across is really nice. On top of that the map is really beautiful. Wish I could rep you but it seems like I have done it too recently...

Also, how do you get the shades of grey in your mountains? Are you using a gray ink for that or am I just showing my lack of knowledge in this?

Tut. People will stare at the map too long to start the book. Consider tucking it in the back
I love it. I'll see if I have rep left from your latest map onslaught...

The map is beautiful and l also love the small details. The Badurach pass looks epic and gives me kind of an Argonath feeling.

This is truly an amazing piece! The more I look at it, the more details I discorver, and the more I love it!

Great map, as usual . I'm always impressed by the little details of the frame & illustrative elements in your maps.

    Thanks for the compliments everyone!

@Arimel - I painted in a layer of greyscale under the ink layer for the mountains and hills. At first I wanted to let the inks speak for themselves, but in the end, the mountains needed a bit of punch since it looked too stark. I played around a bit and settled on a 60% grey or some such.
