Thread: Yet unnamed project in the lands of the fallen ones

Damn. That's huge. I don't think I've ever worked much higher than 5000x5000 or somesuch. Lookin' good! At first glance, the lower left corner looked like a 90 degree angle, but on closer inspection I can see the coastal breakup.

    EDIT: Whoo! Guild journeyer FTW.

New update folks, not a majos one though. Worked further finalizing the costal line, but it takes ages and is the boring part (so I haven't got that finished yet). Also added more height to the mountains and started to play with overall color scheme to get more desert look to the south and more fertile to the north.

Looks like some good scrub land or chaparral like in Arizona or something.

Finally got the coastline finished and cleaned up (I definitely need to find a better way to do it before I start any other project).
Got also more rivers running and started to add more vegetation as well.

The water could use some work, imo. Just doesn't look "natural", which is really stupid to say when you look at some real world satellite images.

well it is not stupid to say that the water doesn't look right as this is not a satellite image. All the textures (land and water) are created in combination with genetica viewer and Photoshop and are not a copy from any real life image or texture. The water is a combination of several different layers and adjustment layers with some blurring and other simple tricks so editing it is relatively easy. Any suggestion what should be done differently?

I actually like the look of the sea. Personally I don't like it when a map has a sea where you can see the ripples and waves, as if it was photograped from 200 ft in the air.

I'm talking about how ridiculous and un-maplike some satellite images can look. My issue with the sea in the above map is that the colors don't follow the coastline.

I took the "gradient overlay" effect away from the sea-layer and added darkening color following the coast line. The effect is pretty mild, but can easily be stronger. Let me know which one you prefer.
