Thanks for the map and a demo of what FM8 is capable. We havent had enough FM8 maps. I think that there are more apps about that can do hybrid raster - vector work than the two you mentioned. I dont believe that anyone has won more guild challenges than Gamerprinter and he exclusively uses Xara which is a hybrid raster-vector app.

I suspected that there were more than two programs that can do hybrid maps, but I didn't know of any others. Thanks for mentioning Xara. I'll take a look at it.

Post Thanks for the mention, RR!

    Thanks for the props RR!

Mark, don't get confused by the fact that Xara Xtreme Pro (or Lite) version is a mapping app, because its really a vector drawing / desktop publishing program. While some of Xara's features are unique, or better designed than other apps with similar capabilities. I would classify Xara Xtreme as being similar to CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, Serif DrawPlus, Inkscape and host of other vector apps.

One can only use FM8 and CC3 for maps, whereas all the Xara like apps can make print design, logos, websites, flash animations, sign design, printed and formatted documents - like adventure modules. And in our capable hands, maps.

Besides, I think I'm tied with RobA to total challenge wins - and with all the great new cartographer members, we're unlikely to get any more wins!

By the way, nice FM8 map, there, Mark!

Right. I checked it out. We need to use a cartographic product like FM8 or Dundjinni so that our users can freely edit the maps that we distribute. Even CC3 is out of the running for us, because it can't embed objects. If a user hasn't installed all of the raster symbols (we have more than 10,000) that we use in exactly the same folder where we stored them, he or she will see only Xs on the map where our symbols were with CC3.

So, Xara really isn't an option for us. But thanks for your reply.
