Some pointers that don't detract from your map but are inconsistent with the actual town...
    - the highest peak, the one referenced in the background info, is about 700m high, 600m higher than the town
    - the bigger river flows west to east into the sea

I think the rendered mountains are very striking. You're definitely on to something.

Thanks Guys, I'mm, I'm not going to go for something that's an exact copy of the real thing...artistic licence and all that (otherwise known as laziness!)

Here's a test render of the town with some of the models in.

I think it will turn out great Ravells, if you have the courage to finish it, that is
Check out my City Designer 3 tutorials. See my fantasy (city) maps in this thread.

Cheers guys. Doesn't have any of the artistry of some of the other entries. I'll get the models down and then look at how to texture them properly (I think simple flat colours)...and work out how much detail to put in so it doesn't look too cluttered (trees? fences? hedges? jetties?). Also more textures for the ground plane...little vegetable patches etc.

It's a shame it's a winter view, I think the landscape looks much nicer without the snow.

    Thanks DJj!

Slightly more 'arty?' I think it looks too filtered....anyway...that was a diversion....just to see what it might look like. I think I'll keep it as a dusk / night scene though with a dominant blue colour.

Maybe you could make multiple renders, use one big image as the primary scene and add a few smaller pictures to the side with different lighting/perspective/zoom?
