All my motivation will be gone if I keep seeing these great maps from contenders.
Hi guys, it's been sooo long since I did the challenge... way too long. But really need to get away from commissions a bit and had some ideas for developing a new city-map style... and what better practise than doing the CG challenge ....
The city is located in the jungle, hidden in a mountain pass. Obviously inspired by Rivendell.. I hope I get the shading right so you really get this feel of this, but let see how it works out... The 2nd map will be a side view showing a bit more of the height-difference, and architecture of the city...
First step... lineworks

Wow, that's really cool. I love the style, and your idea for the second map is awesome too! I cannot wait to see it finished.
Wow, nice to see you back mapping, DJ!
thanks guys And @eVile, your start with the mountains look really good, so I hope you will keep up the spirit. I always see these challenges as a learning thing, where you can try out things and see if you get somewhere ... @Swartzkreuze: thanks I was already mapping again for some time but been busy with commissions only, and needed a little break from that
linework finished (more or less). The houses are not very organized as I figured the builders had to take geographical features and the jungle into account. I tried to 'stack' the buildings against the hillside and hope my shading will make it look like a real vally.. so now for the real experiment to make it look good
