Welcome to the challenge, can't wait to see what you do with this.
I meant to join this competition earlier, but somehow I couldn't find the time to actually work on the map. Also, since I have decided to try my hand at an axonometric map, which I have never done yet, I have 'wasted' some time on figuring out the best way to do this. I am currently sketching in Inkscape, which has a axonometric grid which helps. Except that I decided that a map with only straight angles is boring. After I have got the general floor plan laid out, I am planning to continue work in the Gimp.
In a part of the under city beneath a bar, the Burning Toad, and a restaurant, Jack's Delicacies, they have created two fighting pits. In the larger pit there are mainly arranged fights between semi-professional fighters. Anyone can join the competition in the smaller pit after paying an entrance fee. The winner gets the entrance fees of the other contestants. Most spectators are there to gamble. Overseeing all this is Susan, the partner of Wolfgang Appelbaum the owner of the Burning Toad.
The Burning Toad is a lower class bar. Not very notable, except for it's entertainment downstairs, which can be reached after paying an entrance fee. Jack's Delicacies is an restaurant run by Jack, a daemon, and specialises in all kinds of forbidden, decadent, delicacies. It offers discrete access to the Pits for its customers.
I am still sketching. Below the latest version of my sketch. I am not completely happy with the stairs between the food and drinks area and the main pit. The hallway between them has a bend, but my spatial abilities are not developed enough to be able to visualise how that affects the stairs in the hallway. If have time (which I doubt) I might decide to also add the street level.

Pretty cool style! I like what you have going on!
Looking good, add detail.
i love isometric maps! very intimidating to me, it is a strange sorcery indeed!
love to see the evolution of the original sketch...
Okay, this is ridiculous. Like in a good way, I love it. The different planes reveal a hint of that cartographic madness that infects us all…
My favourite part is that barricade. It's kind of crazy, I can see some workers in there, looking at their pile of scrap lumber, then looking at the hole they have to block off, shrugging and starting in with the hammers. It's great.
cheers,
