Map May 2017 Challenge: Glencoe Massacre

I've been goofing about with this over the past few days so thought I'd start my thread. I'm diving into Scottish history with an event that's pretty well known here, though probably not so much outside of Scotland. (Having said that, I understand this, along with another event from Scottish history, was part inspiration for GRRM's Red Wedding, so there is that.) It certainly fits the definition of 'dastardly'. Also, if you ever visit Scotland, you've gotta go to Glencoe cos it's gorgeous!

My idea was a kind of blood & snow colour palette, but I dunno how I feel about it tbh. Maybe needs some more texture/shading on the main map, or something. I suspect I'll change it all before the end. Who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The words round the edge are a folk song 'The Massacre of Glencoe'. I wasn't quite sure about using someone's (presumably still under copyright) lyrics on the map, but they're all over the web already, so I figured one more place with proper credit wasn't going to make much difference. The whole thing's quite text-heavy, but I wanted to tell the story, cos the map's a bit boring without it.

Anyway, this is where I'm at for now. Also, this would have worked great for the inset map challenge last month. I've got insets in my insets!

Yeah! Finally some competitors, though now I'm nervous, this looks really good so far, I should of thought to pick a story from the real world, nice choice.

    Thanks, guys.

@straf, haha yeah, we'll see. I did add curly wurlys so I claim bonus points for that. Nowhere near as nice as kacey's, but still.

Always good to see some historical maps, and even nicer to learn about historical events such as this.

    Praise looking good

I like where this one is heading. Love the idea of the song and the historical background. I can't wait to see the finished map.
