    Map Tarandera

My entry in the July/August 2017 Lite Challenge: "Map a Hidden Treasure" (vote for the entries here)

The challenge was to produce a treasure map - I made a "normal" map and added annotations in three different hands, showing different paths to the lost city of Pula Itézana.

I've also produced a "clean" version, for anyone who wants to look at the map without all the scrawls on top.

The main inspirations for the map were late 19th century topographic maps like this one of Taiwan or this one of Kadavu in Fiji. The mountain style was very much a compromise between the high-effort hachure style of these maps and my own laziness.

The main map was produced in Photoshop CS5.1, and the annotations were hand-drawn, then photographed and applied in Photoshop.

I said it in the rep comment but the map with notes is one of the best types of that idea I've seen on this site. I don't know of any maps like this featured on the Cartographers choice, but honestly I think it's up to that level.

It really looked like a real treasure hunter map.

Absolutely stunning. I especially love the first version with annotations, it gives a special "alive" feeling.
