Default Aug / Sept '17 Lite Challenge: Map a Village.

Aug / Sept '17 Lite Challenge: Map a Village.

This Challenge is for you to map a village. You can use your imagination and map any type of village you want. Make a small rural community for a modern setting, a medieval village, a western frontier town, a Sherpa village in the Himalayas, a small space outpost, or even a mermaid community, you choose.
So you can make the map in any genre, any style you want.

Use your imagination. Use your skills. Have some fun. Win a silver compass, you know you want one, come and get it.

The Challenge will run until the end of the day on the 14th of September (Midnight eastern daylight time between the 14th and 15th, more or less, depending on when I can get to the computer to start the voting) and then there will be 3 days of voting. Someone is going to win a Shiny Silver Compass, make it yours!

As usual, title your threads: "Aug / Sept '17 Lite Challenge: << your title here >> "

Don't forget to put the hashtag: ### Latest WIP ### in front of all WIP pictures, and especially in front of your final map. And don't forget, there is a new WIP button that automatically posts this for you. Try it, You'll like it!

And remember, if you put more than one image on the same post, only one of them gets picked up.

Quick rules reminder: The Lite Challenge is open to anyone who has not already won 3 Silver compasses, 1 Gold Compass, or been selected as a featured Cartographer's Choice Map.
Also, the map has to be started after the first day of the challenge, no reusing older maps even if they were not finished.

If I wasn't busy with the mapping challenge, I might have taken on this lite challenge! It sounds like fun.

I'm in! Technically I can't enter, but I have this idea… I'll post in the Town forums soon! I really want to do all the challenges, I'm realizing I need to get a LOT of practice, so I hope it's okay if I play alongside this challenge? I won't post in the challenge forums, but I'll get it done by the deadline. Any other "no-more-lite-challenges-for-YOU" folks keen to try?

    Cheers,

Omri, there are no rules that prevent people from being in both challenges simultaneously. I used to do it more often than not

Meshon - I'll see how the land lies after this next week before I make a decision either way.

    Oh, I know. Hehe.

It's just I want to do a proper job with my main challenge map.

    Dearest Bogiermeister,
Upon first reading your description, I felt as Robin must so often feel:

But now after having taken a few days to ponder, I have something starting to take root that I'm excited about!
That's really the key for me, I think: excitement. There aren't many lite challenges that I don't start; but to stay with it to the end, it has to be something that get's me pumped!
Therefore, I hope to take part this time around. Once again, I applaud your excellent challenge prompt, sir, and thank you for running this shindig!

    Hello!

I know I'm not out of my 5-post probation phase, so I imagine it's not the done thing to post an entry thread yet, but I fancy giving this a go. Kicking around a few ideas - I was going to 'ask' my cat what sort of a village I should make, but then it occurred to me; I should make a village for cats. Maybe like from "The Cat Returns", but more likely to be some fantasy setting village dedicated to the care and/or worship of cats. Xavier the cat wasn't very forthcoming with alternate suggestions anyway. ;)

Good luck to all the entrants - seeing all these other maps is super inspiring!

On the contrary. Making your first post a challenge entry is encouraged

Bioluminescence, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you posting a challenge entry while still under your 5 post minimum! As a matter of.fact, entering will get you past the minimum fairly quickly, and we love to see what new artists can come up with!

Sorry I've been away for so long... and I'm not truly back, yet...just got my laptop back, but no internet yet.

Bogie, once again, a cool challenge.to wet.the appetite!

Mouse, I have been out of the loop!!! You have both a shiny silver compass, and a pretty good one!!! You have to send me a link to your winners so I can see what I missed!

Imay not get.a.chance.to comment on everyone's entry, but I will.be watching! As internet accessibility permits, of course!

Thanks, ladiestorm! I'm past my probation now, and just posted my WIP to the challenge. Thank you for the welcome!
