My suggestion is one continent with some major features defined (basic mountain range and major rivers included). Perhaps with some islands around which would also accommodates those who wanted separate islands? I would also suggest for a general assumption in approach that this map is unrealistic, allowing people to kind of go wild with their sites.

If we will be working with blank squares, no predefined major features (mountain ranges etc), maybe each square should have the edges free of elements so mountains, forests, rivers, etc... don't abruptly end or run into a different feature of another member's map. They could just be open grass areas or something.

EDIT: Will there be a thread where people can show their progress and get input? Or just to post finished map sections?

I think defining major land features would work best, otherwise you would get all these little mountain ranges all over the place.

Yep, I agree with you Daniel; if there are no 'connecting' features like large mountain ranges or rivers, either stuff will end abruptly at the end of one square, or there will be odd little mountain ranges and rivers that don't connect anywhere.

As for signing in, I think we're putting together a staging area for this; more to come.
