    Default Qgis for mapping

    Hi

I was reading about Qgis and how powerful it is for mapping purposes, I wonder if we as a collective have any experience with this program and if we should start collecting this experiences in this tread. It is a free and open program design for mapping see here.

That is a pretty cool program. I might have to download that and mess around with it.
    Thanks for the info!

    Hi kortleggur!
I am brand new to this site but do bring ArcGIS will me. I am finding that I can make really nice technical maps and can do very complex spatial analysis, but it is difficult for me to produce beautiful artistic maps. I imagine egis is much the same. It offers really nice features for analyzing data, but you are not going to get the artistic quality that these guys get from programs like photoshop, gimp or campaign cartographer.
    I hope that helps.

for me Qgis interfaces nicely with GDAL( as a GUI - handy for somethings ) and ISIS3 and Ames Stereo Pipeline

    however
for adding Vector data it is quite good and it can be database driven

you might have already seen this web page with 5 videos
    http://qgis-tutorials.mangomap.com/

the docs are right now for 2.8 not 2.10 nor for the source on GIT for the NEXT version
