    Default The Iron Shores

I should really be working on my Annual Challenge, but after stumbling across this really cool old journal page texture, I had to make a map on it. I'm going to try and keep the colors muted and weathered, but depending on how it goes, I may change my mind and make it all sepias or something.

Have you tried doing the linework as browns instead of black?
That might look nice in this instance. Might look more muted and blend well with the muted look.
I like the direction of your muted color scheme.

Yep, linework will be brown when done, and with a faint outer glow to give it just a bit of blurriness. I just draw better in black.

Have you tried a small displacement map modeled on the paper texture (or just any isotropic "hairy" texture) instead of / in addition to the outer glow? It might make the ink look like it bled into the paper because that paper has a rather intense texture.

I'm working on different methods of getting that effect; stay tuned.

Looking good already. I think you're making the map I wish I could make!!

I will be stealing your ideas, eh, I mean watching your work with interest.

Here's a smallish update. I'm pretty happy with the way the title box turned out.

Looking great so far! Very cool idea to use this sort of texture for a background "as a whole". And yes, the cartouche is lovely indeed!
