Default Quick battlemap for game: Shrine of Undeath floor 1

Here's a quick map I made for my game tonight; I didn't have time to add any details. It represents the ground floor of the Shrine of Undeath tower (H2 Orcus Conversion encounter T1 First Defence). It's nice to make a map for myself for a change!

Followup - this is floor 2. Again super quick and no detail. Stole the demonic machine from somewhere. Shelves modified from Kiwirose 2010.

Followup 3 - the third floor. Took a bit more time with the pillars here.

I love these maps, your shadows are awesome as usual, but I also love your walls - and it's cool how you rotated the map to match the direction the party's heading.

Very nice job, especially on the lighting! I am going to have to study these shadows.

I'm interested in the designs etched in the floor. At first I thought the floor texture just had the evil horned skull burned in, but then I noticed that it's been selectively faded out.

And the larger designs that have been incised look nice and rough. Care to share your methods for those?

    Sure.

    I use GIMP

    Orcus W3a.jpg

First I get a layer of embossed rams on a 50% grey background. To emboss rams you begin with the image, then use the standard 'emboss' filter that automatically comes with GIMP or photoshop. Make sure to set the background at exactly 50% grey.

Next set this layer to Hard Light, and c. 55% opacity.

Then get a layer of random noise or plasma. Here I've blacked out the bits I don't want the rams to show.

Then use that as a Layer Mask on the ram layer. This makes the white bits totally visible and the black bits invisible, giving a nice worn appearance.

Next up the larger carving. Again an embossed image on 50% grey.

This is set to Hard Light opacity 70%
