Thread: Hand-Drawn map to be...

  1. #1

    Wip Hand-Drawn map to be...

I'm beginning to work on a personal map project. I've been wanting to create a hand-drawn map that has an illustrative quality to it, unlike anything I've done before. With mountains similar to my first ones in my Archean League map in the last challenge.

I know busier than heck, I can't even finish this month's challenge, yet I can play with a new map idea.... hmmm. Well with personal inspiration I follow that instead of the work I'm supposed to do sometimes.

Anyway, here's the illustrative portion of the compass rose for my map.

Plus, I've really missed creating true illustrative work, so I'm enjoying myself. I love dragons, don't you!

Nice dragon. Perhaps we should have a non-mapping drawing mini challenge for a bit of a change. I know Pyrandon and Ravells are a dab hand with non-cartographic art and a few others on here have nice devArt pages with non-mapping art.

Looking forward to seeing the hand-drawn stuff.

Haven't seen Don in a while though, but that is a cool idea that we may have to implement in some form or fashion on a future project..... your hand drawn stuff isn't all that bad either tor!

    Wip Dragon update!

I brought the dragon into Xara Xtreme and colored him up a bit. I'm liken' how it looks. In hindsight, I realized if I bloodied this guy and stuck some spears and sword cuts on him - he might make a great slain dragon map object! I'll do that too and post him in the VT forum.

    Anyway, update on the dragon...

    Post Don't really know...

I've always thought a dragon was a mix between a snake, a bird or bat and a lion in the original concept of a dragon-like being. 2 out of 3 don't have nipples, so maybe they shouldn't be there. I've never felt dragons are specifically reptillian over its other attributes - how many lizards breath fire, fly, use magic, speak. Perhaps dragons are the ultimate combination of the 4 elements. My first intro to dragons was long before I ever played D&D, so I'm not so Gygaxian based in my understanding of dragons or fantasy.

I can't say for sure that my dragons wouldn't have nipples - call it artistic license.
