I like working with pastels myself so I'm looking forward to seeing if this technique will work. I'm thinking you are going to burn up some erasers
Hi guys! My first entry ever... No real idea for title here...
Quite excited and anxious, and not so used making a hand drawn map except as sketch base for digital work then...
I wanted to explore a new technique here... This will be my base background: pastels on notebook paper (so I already have a grid...). Then I will be 'digging' the caves with an eraser... hope it will work as I imagined...

No real idea of shape, so I did as it came... and change of title, 'Nowhere' was too difficult to insert...

very creative - never saw a map like this before!
I like this a lot - very different. It feels like a map that prehistoric man might have painted on an underground cave. I love the simplicity. Excellent.
Thanks guys!
Here is my next step, not so easy with square pastels...

Thanks.
Next step, adding shadows and highlights with pencils... But I should have done the underground river first...

Ok, next step...
Added some highlights I missed previously, and then added the river color and some rocks and trees masking the entrance. Not very satisfied of these... Also added scale and north.
Now I'm wondering if I should let it like that as finished or add some legend (or at least some figures for rooms). Any suggestions guys?
