Default Fantasy novel - small project

My wife is a new author, with just the first book of a fantasy trilogy published, and the second in the works. Here is the FB site for the series: http://www.facebook.com/ormiscaig I selected "Paid?" because I have NO idea how much this costs, and we can't afford much, as this is a labor of love more than a money-making thing... We did pay our artist for the last book, though.

    Subject
The next book requires a map of the fantasy world, but it really only needs to be the region of the book’s action: mostly coastline, some water features including arches and a cove, an island, and a few inland features like a forest, forest-city, and mountain range.

    Style
We need a simple black and white one page map, preferably with Celtic stylings. Number 9 in this portfolio looks about the style we’re looking for http://fantasy-maps.com/portfolio/

    Quality & Size
    • [semi professional]
    • [Required for print]
    • [Dimensions of map: 5 inches by 7 inches]
    • [Raster]

    Time Constraints
We intend to publish book 2 this fall (October-ish), so about 3 months…

    Copyright
I would like reproduction rights to the map and to use it commercially, of course. However, the artist may retain copyright. I think this CC license fits best: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/3.0/

Sorry, I'm one of those Facebook averse types.

I think you misunderstand what Creative Commons licenses are for. They are public licenses intended for allowing everyone to redistribute a work. Now, it might be that you want to let your readers copy the map freely, but I don't think that's what you're after. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/ is more typical of "I want my fans to play with it" type licensing.

So what I think you mean is that you (or more precisely your wife) want license to copy without royalties it but not make changes. That's pretty typical for commissions like this. Keep in mind that it means that if you want to make a new map or make any changes, you have to either get a new license to do so, or go back to your source material and ignore the first map.

With all that out of the way I'd be interested. My style is somewhat different from what you linked to but I favour clear black and white which works well in print and on e-readers. You can see examples at these pages: http://www.cartographersguild.com/album.php?u=9958 http://draconic.ca/portfolio/ http://hai-etlik.deviantart.com/gallery/10457186

Cost depends a lot of the details.

I'll toss my name in the pot too, who knows ... I haven't been commissioned for a regional map in ages. Here's some of me stuff: http://lukc.deviantart.com/gallery/26189392

    Cheerio!

I contacted the author on FB, and was told that they may not be going ahead with the request (mid July) and heard nothing since.
