I think many of the people here use something like Fractal Terrains or Wilbur because they up a full planet. I don't have either so I can't be sure but I am sure that those that do have them will chime in sooner or later. I, and a few others, use good ole Google Earth. We make up our own world then import it into G.E. There is a quasi-tutorial around here somewhere that shows exactly how.

    It's in this thread:

Just read through the posts and further down (page 2) the Master RobA explains it. As far as making up your own world to import into G.E., well there's a ton of tutorials here to help get ya started.

If this is pertaining to some of those artwork pieces from a few months back, then they used Photoshop and/or GIMP in a more painterly style. There are tutorials on the web for making them.

It depends. If you are talking about creating an actual world, then Yes, Fractal Terrains, or Wilbur or similar programs will do it.

If however, you are talking just world images, then I think you want something like Astrosynthesis and it's ilk:

Flaming Pear makes a PS plugin that pops out planets and moons left and right. Well worth the investment if you do lots of planets.
Bill Stickers is innocent! It isn't Bill's fault that he was hanging out in the wrong place.

I recommend the Space Bundle, You would get 3 plug-ins for less than $60. And yes it is well worth the money (at least it was for me).

Photoshop is what I use ... I guess it really depends on what you are looking for and what you want to accomplish and what you are familiar with ... and how much you wanna pay for a program to do it with
