    I threw this together in GIMP real quick last night. Not quite as good as the original, but not bad for 10 minutes worth of work.

    One thing I did (I skimmed the tutorial since I use GIMP and some of the steps are different) differently that I like the look of is to run a layer with a high noise filter and did a displace filter on the grid lines of about 4 px, then beveled the grid layer. This makes each "tile" look like it was hand hewn from a quarry somewhere, and I really like the look.

    Instead of all that picky erasing I wrote a script to shuffle tiles of a layer. It is handy to break up the lines of the difference clouds layer along the tiles.
