Very nice
This is Opal Island. Opal Island is a Free City that serves as a capital of sorts for the Republic of Sanmyr in my homebrew DnD game. Opal Island lies in the center of a large body of freshwater named Silver Lake. An ancient place of power, in ages long past it was blessed by the very deities themselves so that it would always have pleasant, near-tropical weather and that its fields would always produce bountiful crops, 10 times that of a comparable sized lot of land. Opalialgos, as it is known in the old tongue, has boomed over the last century growing from a small monastic agrarian settlement to the bustling cosmopolitan metropolis of well over 60,000 permanent citizens. In the summer months this population swells beyond counting as thousands come to see the Regal Games hosted in the the Arena.
This map was done entirely by me using photoshop on top of an original hand-drawn scan. The work in progress thread can be found in the City Maps section.
I hope you like it, and anyone that wants to download it and use it for private use is more than encouraged to do so.

Unless I explicitly state otherwise you have my permission to use my maps in any capacity needed just give me credit. If you make money off them somehow, that's awesome - let me know! In fact, I LOVE to hear about the ways maps I make are used.
Very nice

I'm impressed you finished it! It can be easy to "give up" when making a large map with that much detail.

The blessing from the Gods has been taken from Opalialgos. In the spirit of massive change I have been working on a new iteration of this map where all those white little squares will be colored to indicate contents:store, home, store with home above, "apartments", etc. I have also greatly increased the docks.
As stated in another thread a few minutes ago, as soon as I remember how to post I will post the work in progress. The first map was crazy huge - the new version dwarfs it.

Keep up the good work
Really nice ! Your city seems to have a pretty good background. It has many religious buildings, I guess religion is quite important in your world ?
Thanks for all the positive replies - it means a lot to me.
Yeah, Opal Island kind of became the place for Temples. When it was first settled by PCs, there was a tremendous amount of religious persecution. So, one of my players decided to play a Paladin. Then another PC died, so he made a Priest, so on and so on until their Free City became this bastion of Religion, Philosophy, Civilized Debate, and Academics.
I will try to get a newer image posted as soon as I can. I have been bed-ridden and cannot make it to the computer with all the appropriate files. I needed more datum represented so I had to color in the buildings - especially the unknown ones. So - Sim City style I colored the buildings in based on their primary usage using three different shades of each color. The darker the color the more "dense" that building is. For instance, I use Red to designate multi-family residential areas. The lightest shade might be a married older couple whose children and their families live there as well. While a great big darkest red pretty much represents Roman style apartments. Blue is commercial - goods for sale, Purple is mixed, a store or two on bottom with folks living in the upper level; I also use orange, yellow, and green but thanks to my medications, I cannot recall their use from the top of my head. I also constructed a building contents generator based on these colors. So you don't need to know where every thing is all the time.
